【Original】

目にも見よ 耳にもふれよ 香を嗅ぎて

ことを問いつつ よく合点せよ

茶の湯をば 心に染めて 眼にかけず

耳をひそめて きくこともなし

【Hiragana】

めにもみよ みみにもふれよ かをかぎて

ことをといつつ よくがてんせよ

ちゃのゆをば こころにそめて めにかけず

みみをひそめて きくこともなし

【Roman】

menimomiyo miminimofureyo kaokagite

kotowotoitsutsu yokugatenseyo

chanoyuoba kokoronisomete menikakezu

mimiohisomete kikukotomonashi

【Meaning】

Look at it by your eyes and listen it by your ears and smell it by your nose. Then convince after having questions.

It is invisible by your eyes and it is unheard by your ears. You can dye your heart at the tea ceremony.

Originally, the sequence of these poems is opposite. But I exchanged because felt this order is better.

At first, new comer is taught by senior disciple. The new comer has to copy the movement of senior disciples. Then, he thinks about the logic.

I think first poem is for beginners, but of course, it is also good for veteran's scolding.

Next poem is useful for the trainee who is the slave of the eyes and ears.

Veteran shouldn't be the slave of the eyes and ears.

A certain meaning, eyes and the ear are inconvenient sometimes.

You can watch only what you watched and you can listen only what you listened.

The five senses can feel only what they felt.

Is there the things which is invisible by the five senses?

That is impossible to know by the books and rumor.

As zen, the enlightenment is located at out side of the five senses.

Therefore, the enlightenment can't get by the five senses.

Maybe scientists may say it is foolish thing. But, maybe, some meaning is included, because human being continue for more than 2000 years.

By my experience, exactly, there is the thing which is outside of the five senses. But it is incommunicable by language.

Today, massive information is overflowing.

According to another report, the knowledge amount of 70 years old in 150 years ago and the knowledge amount of 3 years old of today is same.

Exactly, the amount of information is crazy after the internet became popular.

No matter how much the quantity that a human being can understand even if data increase does not change.

The person stops voluntarily thinking because it is for not swallowed to the flood of information, and use directly the conclution which was thought by other people easily.

I always worry about it.

Therefore, we should make clear the questions which you have to grapple with or the questions which other people can grapple with.

It is same as Bugei.

By the spread of Internet, we become easy to know the thing which was difficult to know before.

It is good for intellectual interest.

But, if you can't classify the things which need for Bugei practice or not. it should be very dangerous for you.

If you decorate only Bugei trivia and you didn't focus the root of Bugei, you have problem for Bugeisha.

I always worry about it for myself.

For practice of Bugei, we don't need so many things.

At least, I am so.

Let me back to the tea ceremony.

The good behavior and good items should be from good mind. The good behavior and good items doesn't make good mind.
