一芸は万芸に通ず
"The philosophy of one artistic skill is applicable to all of artistic skill."
To entirely complete a artistic skill makes valuable philosophy for you.
In other words, the thousand of incomplete artistic skills doesn't make a sense.
I am not talking about "many experience" and "many knowledge".
In Japan, we have a proverb;
石の上にも三年
"Sitting on a stone for three years."
For English, this proverb is almost same as
"Patience wins the day."
This proverb came from Zen practice.
I tried this experience before. (But 3 hours instead of 3 years:-)
For Japanese, only "patience" doesn't make a sense. More than that.
Important factor is "self-reflection".
Therefore, chasing new way, new techniques, new method, and new knowledge without self-reflection is not meaning of mastering the artistic skill. Never!
Good artist is often flustered to comparison between "a one of artistic skill" and "abundant knowledge and skill".
And there is a gate in between. I can call the gate as "The gate of determination".
When you compare "a artistic skill" with "abundant knowledge and skill", you are dropped into the pond of agony.
The length may be "3 years". This length is tradition of Japan.
Then, after that, if you didn't escape from what you faced.
You will see something.
Do not compare with others, it doesn't make a sense.
If you don't like it, you can try again and harder.
In the deed, you will see the real meaning of "The philosophy of one artistic skill is applicable to all of artistic skill." one day.
