守りつくして
破るとも
離るるとても
本を忘るな

【Meaning】
You must not forget the origin, even if you break and away from the rule and etiquette after you have obeyed it entirely.
In Bugei, there is same words,
What is called "守破離, Shu-Ha-Ri, Obey-Break-Away".
It seems many interpretations depend on sect. But almost same meaning.
I would like to explain by a example.
For making a Buddhism temple bell.
For making the good bell which gives good tone, correct mold is exactly needed.
After the cast bronze in a mold was cooled down, mold is destroyed and the bell is appeared.
Then, the bell is lifted on the bell house and the bell is rung wonderfully.
I interpret "Shu-Ha-Ri" like this.
keeping the correct mold, destroying the mold correctly and lifting the bell up properly are needed for the bell which gives good tone.
Then, it is whose sake the beautiful tone is to be the most important thing.
I think this process happens in the product processing and the human life too.
Therefore, right "Shu", right "Ha" and right "Ri" is necessary for becoming to great Bugeisha.
As you see in the sentence, we must not forget the origin.
"The origin" should be different between each individual.
For example, if you use Bugei for your own desire, ambition and profit, it is same as using Buddhism temple bell for the evil deed.
At least, using Bugei for the evil deed will destroy yourself.
Shu, Ha and Ri, please remind the reason for your Bugei in each step.
I was surprised the tea ceremony which always request complete behavior to player is showing such a poem at the end.
I believe the secret of the tea ceremony is into this poem.
But, only the person who practiced well can reach to this mental state.
I always continue my practice with this thought.
I study Bugei and Zen just a little, but I am an amateur about the tea ceremony.
These translation and explanation is just my thought. If the person who study the tea ceremony read these blog, please forgive me.
I know my translation and explanation is absolutely incomplete, but I wished to introduce Japanese culture for the friends who is studying Japanese traditional arts. If I have change, I would like to read proof them.
